Board guide
What a board is made of, the boards under the decor, and the sheets each range comes in. For the decor itself, see the ranges.
A decorative surface, bonded to a base board, balanced on the back.
The surface is what makes a range: melamine paper pressed in register with its texture plate (synchronised), UV lacquer in eight to twelve coats (high gloss and super matt), a PET film, or an acrylic film with melamine on the back. Under it, a melamine paper bonds it to the base board, and a second paper on the back keeps the sheet flat.
Two ranges are built differently: compact HPL is laminate all the way through, with no base board, and powder coat is sprayed onto an HDF board and baked on every face and edge.

The board under the decor.
Most ranges come on more than one board. Choose by where the panel goes: the decor and the code stay the same.
- MDF
- Medium density fibreboard: fine and even all the way through, so it machines cleanly. Fronts, doors and panels.
- Particleboard
- Wood particles pressed with resin: lighter and economical. Carcasses, shelves and panels.
- Plywood
- Veneers glued with the grain crossed: strong, stable and good at holding screws.
- HMR MDF
- High moisture resistant MDF, for kitchens, laundries and bathrooms.
- MR particleboard
- Moisture resistant particleboard, for the same damp places.
- FR MDF
- Fire retardant MDF, where the job asks for a fire rating.
- HDF
- High density fibreboard: harder and denser than MDF. The board under powder coat.

Most ranges come in 1220 × 2440 and 1220 × 2800. The newer synchronised colours also come as 1245 × 2800 MDF, and three of them as 1549 × 2769 particleboard. Compact HPL is 1320 × 3050. Powder coat is cut to order.
