Edge banding
Edge banding is the thin strip that covers the cut edge of a board. Matched to the decor on the face, it makes a door, a drawer or a shelf look as if it were made from one solid piece.
Why it matters
- 01
It seals the board's core, so moisture and knocks stay out of the MDF or particleboard inside.
- 02
It finishes the look. The edge is the first thing a hand finds, and the first place a mismatch shows.
- 03
It is matched to the decor: the same colour (a 99% match, as made) and a finish to suit the face.
- 04
The synchronised and 3D texture ranges have edging with the same texture as the face.
PVC, ABS or 3D acrylic.
All three are matched to the decor. The choice is about the board and how the edge should look.
- PVC
- The everyday edging: flexible, tough and easy to apply. It suits almost every board in the range.
- ABS
- A chlorine-free plastic edging with much the same wear as PVC, for jobs that ask for it.
- 3D acrylic
- A clear acrylic strip with the colour printed on its back: the edge looks like glass, with depth. Made for high gloss and acrylic fronts.

Thinner where it is hidden, thicker where it takes knocks.
Edging comes from 0.4 to 3 mm thick. These are the usual choices; ask us for your job.
| Thickness | Usually for |
|---|---|
| 0.4 to 0.8 mm | Edges you rarely see or touch: inside carcasses, the backs of shelves. |
| 1 to 2 mm | Doors, drawer fronts and the front edges of shelves: the edges hands and knees find. |
| 2 to 3 mm | Hard-working edges: commercial joinery, desks and anything that gets bumped every day. |
Made to match the board.
Widths from 19 to 80 mm cover every board in the range with room to trim. Ask for the edging with the board: give the decor's code and we will match it.
